Welcome to the
Surrey Hills Music Festival 2016
2016 Festival a HUGE success
The 2016 Surrey Hills Music Festival was a big success for the artists, the organisers and the Surrey Hills community. With over 50 acts playing on 5 stages over 3 days the Union Rd strip was jam packed with music and celebrations. A number of cafes hosted music acts which combined with the street performance progfram spread the festival from Canterbury Rd all the way north to Montrose St!
With our prefestival events included, the festival spanned around 2 months duration, involved a small army or volunteers, created a number of media opportunities to spread the word of the festival wider and brought in some outstanding acts. At times I had to remind myself that I was in Surrey Hills and not the Melbourne jazz festival or the blues and roots festival, or indeed the national folk festival!
A huge thankyou to all the people who contributed to the festival as sponsors, volunteers, artists, organisers, caterers or in any other capacity. Stay tuned for word of next year's festival. I'll be uploading some great images of the event here soon.
John Fleming, 2016 Festival Director
The festival is centred at the Surrey Hills Neighbourhood Centre, 157 Union Rd, Surrey Hills, but takes in the whole strip between Canterbury Rd and Montrose Street.
Parking is available at the Surrey Hills Station, and surrounding streets.
We encourage you to observe parking restriction signs.
While a festival has run in some form for many years in Surrey Hills, 2016 is the seventh year of the Music Festival per se. The Festival is partly funded by the City of Boroondara and generously supported by local businesses.

Who we are
The SHMF is run by a dedicated band of people with a strong interest in the local community. They form into the Festival Steering Committee which meets monthly across the year to plan the festival. The Committee employs a Festival director who creates the overall plan for the festival and co-ordinates the various aspects of the operation.
The Festival Director for 2016 is John Fleming, guiding the operation for his second year.
The festival also could not happen without the generous support of the Surrey Hills Neighbourhood Centre, headed up by Shima Ibuki and her team who give so much energy and resources to the festival.
While we do tend to see the same faces on the steering committee every year, we are very welcoming of new people to come on board and give us a hand.
